Karnal, July 31: In a harrowing incident early Friday morning in the Jato Gate area of ??Karnal city, a couple was seriously injured when the roof slab of their rented house collapsed, while their seven-month-old daughter, who was sleeping beside them, miraculously escaped unharmed.
According to reports, 25-year-old Nitish lives in a rented house near Jato Gate with his wife, Rani, and their seven-month-old daughter. Around 5:30 AM on Friday, while the family was fast asleep, the bottom layer of the roof slab—approximately two inches thick—suddenly crumbled and fell.
The debris fell directly onto Nitish and Rani, injuring both of them. Alerted by the loud crash, neighbors rushed to the scene and began rescue efforts. A neighbor, Akash, recounted that upon entering the house, he found Nitish covered in blood, while Rani lay critically injured. Locals quickly cleared the debris and brought the family out.
Household belongings inside the house were also severely damaged in the incident. The injured were taken to the hospital; Nitish is currently undergoing treatment in Karnal, while Rani has been referred to PGI Chandigarh due to her critical condition.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. Authorities are looking into the cause of the collapse to determine if construction-related negligence played a role in the accident.
