Parkash Singh Badals Cousin Bhupinder Singh Dhillon Joins BJP with Son

Muktsar:- Former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s cousin, Major (Retd.) Bhupinder Singh Dhillon, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chandigarh on Monday along with his son Amarveer Singh Bawa. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon inducted them into the party.
Following their induction, the BJP said that two more members of the Badal family had joined the party. Earlier, in January 2023, former Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal had left the Congress and joined the BJP. He was recently appointed the party’s national vice-president.
Seventy-eight-year-old Bhupinder Singh Dhillon, popularly known as Major Bhoop, has served as Parkash Singh Badal’s political secretary during the Akali-BJP government and is among the senior-most members of the Badal family.
Bhupinder Singh is the son of late Rajya Sabha member Gurraj Singh Badal, who was the younger brother of Parkash Singh Badal’s father, Raghuraj Singh. Bhupinder Singh’s ancestral home in Badal village is located right next to the old house of Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
His decision to join the BJP assumes significance at a time when the party is preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections and is seeking to expand its base in the state.
On the occasion, Bhupinder Singh said that he was impressed by the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He indicated that he would become active in electoral politics and would also add ‘Badal’ to his name. However, he said that he had no grievance against his nephew and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. He is now being seen as the BJP’s face in Lambi, considered a stronghold of the Badals. Although Manpreet Badal is also a resident of Badal village, he is active in the Bathinda Urban and Gidderbaha Assembly constituencies.
