Oncologists deliberate on the changing landscape of cancer care at Cancer Conclave

Mohali, September 06, 2026: Oncologists from PGIMER, Tata Memorial Hospital, AIIMS Bilaspur, Max Hospital, and Fortis participated in a Cancer Conclave organized by Park Gracian Hospital on Sunday. The day-long scientific event focused on the evolving landscape of cancer treatment and the delivery of comprehensive, evidence-based, patient-centric care. Led by Dr. Sandeep Kukkar, Director of Oncology at Park Hospital, the conclave provided a platform for oncologists to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging evidence, and brainstorm complex cancer management.
The event featured expert presentations and interactive panel discussions on the most critical emerging areas in cancer care. It offered cancer specialists from various institutions an opportunity to collaborate, share clinical experiences, and discuss how these advanced techniques can be applied to achieve better treatment outcomes and improve patients' quality of life. A major highlight of the conclave was the rapid transformation in cancer therapy, particularly the expanding role of immunotherapy, molecular profiling, biomarkers, targeted therapy, and novel systemic treatment modalities.
The oncologists also discussed the emerging role of Next-Generation Sequencing, liquid biopsy, and molecular testing in identifying genomic alterations across various cancer types, enabling more precise and personalized cancer management. On this occasion, Dr. Kukkar highlighted the growing cancer burden in India and emphasized the importance of early detection, timely treatment, and preventive measures.
He stated, "Nearly 3 million people in India are living with cancer, with approximately 1.56 million new cases diagnosed, while the disease claims around 8,70,000 lives in the country every year. Breast and cervical cancers remain the most common cancers among women in India, whereas lung and liver cancers are the most prevalent among men."
