Monthly Meeting of Pensioners Association Powercom and Transmission Division Nawanshahr Held
Nawanshahr:- The monthly meeting of the Pensioners Association, Powercom and Transmission Division, Nawanshahr, was held under the leadership of President Narinder Kumar Mehta. The meeting focused on discussions regarding the issues faced by pensioners and the ongoing struggles led by the organization to meet their demands.
Circle President Kulvinder Singh Atwal, circle leaders Niranjan Singh Kangra and Vijay Kumar Bali, and divisional leaders Ravinder Bhaskar (Rahon), Shambhu Narayan (Rahon), Juginder Singh (Begampur), Prem Chankoya, Prem Sahabpur, Charan Singh, Shiv Raj, Inderjit Singh, and Baldev Tajowal addressed the meeting. The speakers stated that, following the struggles outlined by the Joint Front of Employees and Pensioners and the Joint Employees' Platform regarding DA (Dearness Allowance) and other legitimate demands, protest demonstrations were held across all district headquarters in Punjab on June 24, 2026. Furthermore, a series of protest demonstrations are being held in front of the residences of Punjab cabinet ministers from July 1 to July 10, 2026.
As part of this movement, employees and pensioners of SBS Nagar district and Garhshankar tehsil will hold a protest demonstration in front of the residence of Deputy Speaker Jai Singh Rouri in Garhshankar on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. A strong appeal was made to all employees and pensioners to participate in large numbers at 9:00 AM sharp, to give a befitting reply to the Punjab government's poor mindset regarding the permanent freezing of dearness allowance.
The speakers remarked that this is the same Aam Aadmi Party government that promised during the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections that once they come to power, employees would not have to stage any protests or demonstrations for their demands. They noted that other state governments in India are providing updated DA to their employees and pensioners. Furthermore, according to a past Supreme Court judgment, DA is a right of employees and pensioners, not charity. The speakers criticized the government for attempting to delay matters through arguments and appeals. They added that the intoxication of political power makes leaders forget the public who helped them gain it with folded hands.
The proceedings were conducted by Divisional Secretary Madan Lal. Others present included Hukam Chand, Dev Raj Sujon, Ram Lubhaya, Gursharanpal Singh, Nirmal Singh, Kashmir Singh, Iqbal Singh, and Nirmaljit.
