Meteorological Department warns of Januarylike cold in March
Chandigarh:- The weather is expected to be unusually cold in large parts of North India on Thursday and Friday. According to information, a strong western disturbance passing through this region may cause rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms, snowfall and a sharp drop in temperature.
According to the forecasts, light to heavy rain with thunder is likely in many areas including Delhi NCR, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh on March 20. The temperature is expected to drop significantly during the day, with the maximum temperature remaining between 18°C ??and 24°C. However, such conditions are seen more in the month of January than in the end of March.
Meteorologists have also warned of severe thunderstorm activity due to the unusual structure of this system. The current western disturbance is showing a long, linear trough that stretches for thousands of kilometers—an unusual structure that can accelerate cloud development and trigger severe weather events. Heavy snowfall is forecast in higher areas.
Meteorologists have advised residents to remain alert, as sudden changes in weather, including strong winds and lightning, can pose a risk. Officials have recommended following the updates of the India Meteorological Department for the latest advisories.
