Limits of Words or Language
Our speech or language is a reflection of our personality. It hides the values and upbringing of a person. It is generally said that the choice of words should be correct. Sometimes, words spoken in the flow of emotions can spoil long-standing relationships forever. Someone has rightly said: weigh your words before speaking. Statements or talks issued in public gatherings without thinking often become a cause of great trouble for the speaker.
These days, the words spoken by Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring about the late former Union Home Minister Shri Buta Singh Ji during the campaign for the Tarn Taran by-election have become a big problem for the President Sahib. From all sides, there is condemnation of Raja Warring's statement. It is election time, and at this moment, the opposition parties of Congress are using this statement of his to attract a large vote bank towards themselves.
This is not the first occasion when a person associated with politics has crossed the limits of words; many such incidents have happened before as well. After giving such controversial statements, as always, all public figures try to escape by repeating the same rote excuse or even get completely clean, saying that my statement has been twisted and presented, the wrong meaning of my words is being extracted, or my intention was not to hurt anyone's sentiments. Generally, the perception is that the person addressing the gathering is considered a human being with distinct thinking and good understanding, separate from the crowd. The listeners present in the gathering and the general public draw inspiration from their words; truly, people consider them as their guide.
But what kind of mentality is this that you take votes from every section, reach the temple of democracy, the Vidhan Sabha or Lok Sabha, and then, for cheap fame or the baseless applause of a few people, mock a particular section. This is perhaps a big problem in our country that we often regret after electing our leaders.
People look for effective communication in their leader, the ability to motivate the team, morality, honesty, and the qualities of right guidance. For proper leadership of the people, a leader should have a clear vision for the future. There should be a spirit of service and dedication towards all people without any caste discrimination. An important quality of a competent leader is to continuously strive for social unity and mutual goodwill. A true leader never stops learning and always takes lessons from his successes and mistakes.
Wrong statement-making is not limited to the leaders of any particular political party or to people of any particular caste, class, or specific profession. Many times, it has also been seen that political representatives speak wrongly even about the officers of our armed forces or officials related to security. This behavior can only be called their arrogance or foolish opinion. Later, they have to apologize or appear in courts.
It is a famous saying that wounds from a dagger heal or get better with time, but harsh words spoken by someone are never forgotten by a person. Such words, which are spoken without considering the time and place, without thinking, always become the cause of cracks in relationships. A simple example is that nowadays we go to deraas or ashrams so that by going there, we get to hear the sweet words and high thoughts of those religious leaders.
Our speech makes us worthy of respect, honor, and love. To lead people, it is very essential to have self-leadership, restraint, and self-respect. Therefore, we need to pay a lot of attention to the limits of words and the right choice for our daily behavior. This is the basis of our conduct and a reflection of our personality.
