Kurali Murder Case Solved Within 45 Hours Accused Arrested

SAS Nagar, August 29:- The Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar Police have successfully solved the murder case reported in Kurali on August 28, arresting the accused within merely 4-5 hours of the incident.
Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Harmandeep Singh Hans said that on August 28, at around 12:30 PM, Saroj Devi (45), wife of Om Nath Rai, was allegedly attacked with a knife at her residence in Ward No. 13, Badali Road, Kurali. She succumbed to her injuries, while her husband Om Nath was seriously injured after being stabbed in the abdomen. He is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, Phase-6, Mohali.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused, Sonu Kumar (25), son of Suresh Kumar and a resident of Kurali, was allegedly opposed to his sister's decision to marry Bittu, son of Om Nath, of her own choice. On learning about the marriage, the accused allegedly went to Om Nath's residence armed with a knife and attacked Saroj Devi and Om Nath.
Based on the statement of the injured victim, FIR No. 91 dated August 28, 2026, under Sections 109 and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), was registered at Police Station City Kurali.
To ensure the immediate arrest of the accused, a special police team was constituted under the supervision of SP (Rural) Jaspinder Singh and the directions of Harkirat Singh, PPS, DSP Kharar-2 (Mullanpur), led by Inspector Harsh Mohan Gautam, SHO, Police Station City Kurali.
Acting swiftly, the police team apprehended the accused within 4-5 hours of the incident.
The accused will be produced before the court for seeking police remand. Further investigation in the case is underway.
