Historic decision to include Yogasan Sports under the Sports Department

Ratia, July 4: There is great enthusiasm within the yoga community following the Haryana government's historic decision to bring Yogasan Sports under the Sports Department—shifting it from the AYUSH Department—and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's mention of Yogasan's global achievements in his "Mann Ki Baat" program. Madan Gopal Arya, In-charge of the Patanjali Yoga Samiti and Bharat Swabhiman (Hisar Division), and District Media In-charge Suresh Mangla stated that this decision marks a historic step for the state's lakhs of Yogasan athletes, coaches, and youth. It will provide Yogasan Sports with a new identity and help it reach new heights.
They clarified that Yoga, as an Indian tradition of lifestyle and health, will continue to be administered by the AYUSH Department as before; only competitive Yogasan has been included in the Sports Department as a sport. This decision serves as a milestone for the development of the sport while preserving the core spirit of Yoga. Inclusion in the Sports Department will provide athletes with modern training, better facilities, regular competitions, scholarships, and opportunities to showcase their talent at national and international levels.
Both officials expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini, the Sports Minister, and the state government. They remarked that this decision would give new momentum to Yoga and Yogasan in Haryana and infuse the youth with fresh energy regarding health and sports. They noted that the Bharat Swabhiman Nyas, Patanjali Yoga Parivar, and Yogasan Sports Association have been working for years to take Yoga to the masses, and this government decision would give new wings to the state's talent.
The mention in "Mann Ki Baat" of India winning 114 medals—including 102 gold—at the first World Yogasan Championship held in Ahmedabad is a matter of pride for the entire nation. It stands as significant proof of the progress made toward establishing Yogasan as a global sport. Congratulating the World Yogasan Family, athletes, coaches, and associates, both officials urged everyone to resolve to take this legacy of Yoga to the world.
