Accused arrested for opening fire due to old enmity
Karnal, August 29: Under the able guidance and direction of Karnal Superintendent of Police (SP) Mr. Narendra Bijarnia (IPS), the district police are taking continuous, strict, and effective action against those involved in shooting incidents and those possessing illegal weapons. In this ongoing effort, a team led by CIA-2 In-charge Inspector Praveen Kumar successfully arrested an accused who had been absconding in a case involving a shooting incident stemming from an old rivalry.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sanjay Kumar, son of Balbir, a resident of village Hasanpur (Police Station Madhuban, Karnal). The team recovered an illegal .315 bore country-made pistol and one live cartridge used in the crime.
The Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sanjay Kumar, stated that the accused was arrested from village Jhimrehri late in the evening based on a tip-off.
The IO explained that on the night of June 24, 2024, the complainant, Sahil (son of Dilawar Singh, resident of village Hasanpur), was present with his friends on the bank of the distributary canal running from Hasanpur towards Raseen. At that time, the accused, Sanjay Kumar, arrived with two other associates and began verbally abusing the complainant.
When the complainant asked the reason for the abuse, the accused allegedly pulled out a country-made pistol—which he had concealed at the back of his trousers—and fired with the intent to kill. The bullet grazed the back of the complainant's left shoulder, causing an injury. Based on the complainant's statement, a case was registered at Police Station Madhuban under the Arms Act and other relevant sections. The team has now arrested the absconding accused, Sanjay Kumar.
Further investigation is underway to thoroughly examine the roles of other individuals involved in the case. Police teams are making continuous efforts to arrest the other accused persons involved in the incident. Strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
