Patna, July 8 - A key suspect in the murder of industrialist Gopal Khemka was killed in an encounter with the police in the Damaria Ghat area of ??Patna early on Tuesday. Officials said that Vikas alias Raja (29), who was the main suspect in the murder of industrialist Gopal Khemka, was also wanted in several other criminal cases.
An official said that the team of officers investigating the murder case had received a confidential information, on which they reached Damaria Ghat early in the morning in search of Vikas.
The police officer said, "On seeing the police personnel, he tried to escape and also opened fire. The officers retaliated and he was killed." He said that no police personnel were injured during this. The official said that a pistol, a spent and a live cartridge have been recovered from the spot.
They said that the police suspect that Vikas had provided the weapon that was used in Khemka's murder. The police have already arrested the gunman Umesh Rai and detained another person, who is suspected of hiring a contract killer.
It is worth noting that Khemka was shot dead outside his residence in the city's Gandhi Maidan area on Friday morning. Seven years ago, his son was murdered in Hajipur.
