Joint committee to be formed to make Yamuna river clean and pure - Chief Minister.

Chandigarh, August 20 - Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini said that on the lines of Mother Ganga, a joint committee of senior officials of CWC, Haryana Government and Delhi Government will be formed to make Yamuna river clean and pure. This committee will work on cleaning Yamuna river as well as solving other problems related to it.

This committee will work on cleaning Yamuna river as well as solving other problems related to it.
The Chief Minister was talking to reporters after a meeting held under the chairmanship of Union Water and Power Minister CR Patil at Kirat Shakti Bhawan in New Delhi today on 'Inter-State Coordination Related to Yamuna Water Juvenation'. Union Urban Housing and Power Minister Mr. Manohar Lal was also present in the meeting.
Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini said that since the formation of the government in Delhi under the leadership of Smt. Rekha Gupta, plans are being prepared at a fast pace and the work of implementing them at the ground level is continuously going on. He said that work is being done at a fast pace for the cleanliness of the Yamuna River. The process of cleaning the drains of dirty water falling in the river through the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) and releasing it into the river is being accelerated.
The Chief Minister said that 16 thousand metric tons of garbage have been removed so far under the campaign to clean the Yamuna River. He said that as per the resolution of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Yamuna will be made clean and pure under the target set. The Chief Minister clarified that the cleanliness of the Yamuna is the top priority of both the governments and soon the public will be able to see the clean form of the Yamuna River.
The Chief Minister said that the BOD level of the drain falling into the Yamuna river from Palli village in Karnal district is 80. Necessary steps are being taken to make this water cleaner. He said that there has been a notable improvement in the BOD level of the Yamuna river water in Okhla, Faridabad.
To further improve its quality, 44 sewage treatment plants have been set up, from which about 620 MLD of water is being cleaned daily. Apart from this, 9 more seepage treatment plants are being set up to clean 510 MLD of water.
The Chief Minister said that there are no boundaries between any state regarding environment and water. For this, both the states will have to work together, only then the Yamuna river can be made completely clean. He said that it is being ensured that polluted water is not directly discharged into the Samuna river.
Necessary guidelines have also been given to the officials for this. He said that the services of representatives and experts from Delhi and Haryana will be taken for monitoring the Najafgarh lake and drain and the BOD level of polluted water coming out of the industries of Haryana will also be checked.
Mr. Naib Singh Saini strongly condemned the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta and called it unfortunate.
Union Secretary Devshree Mukherjee, Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra Kumar, Haryana Additional Chief Secretary Vineet Garg, Additional Chief Secretary Irrigation Department Anurag Agarwal and senior officials of the Irrigation and Environment Department were present in the meeting.
