
Investigation campaign by District Task Force to stop child begging in Garhshankar
Garhshankar/, 21 July: Project Jeevanjot-2 is being conducted under the guidelines of Punjab Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur and under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain. Under this campaign, District Program Officer Gagandeep Singh, led by District Child Protection Officer Harpreet Kaur, today raided Garhshankar to stop child begging.
Garhshankar/, 21 July: Project Jeevanjot-2 is being conducted under the guidelines of Punjab Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur and under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain. Under this campaign, District Program Officer Gagandeep Singh, led by District Child Protection Officer Harpreet Kaur, today raided Garhshankar to stop child begging.
During this investigation campaign, 5 children were rescued from child begging from places like Banga Road, Chandigarh Road, Nangal Road, Noorpur Bedi Road and Bus Stand Garhshankar, Tehsil Complex etc. and they were presented before the Child Welfare Committee. The Child Welfare Committee counseled the children and keeping in mind the welfare of the children, a decision was taken for their welfare.
The District Child Protection Officer also appealed to the general public that if you find any child begging or doing child labor, then inform on Child Helpline 1098, so that your one initiative can change the life of a child. He said that information about the schemes being run by the Punjab Government for children aged 0 to 18 years can be obtained at the District Child Protection Unit Hoshiarpur or by calling on Child Helpline 1098.
He said that such raids have been conducted earlier also and these will continue continuously. If any parent is found making a child beg, action will be taken against him also. He said that coordination can always be done with the District Child Protection Unit Ram Colony Camp regarding the safety and care of children.
On this occasion, District Program Officer Gagandeep Singh said that as per the instructions issued by the department, DNA test of the parents who make children beg will be done and if the report does not match, legal action will be taken against them. Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Harjeet Kaur said that so far two FIRs have been registered in various police stations of Hoshiarpur district in cases of making children beg. During this raid Mohit (Social Worker) District Child Protection Unit, Diksha, Ranjit Kaur, ASI Mahinder Pal from Garhshankar Police Station and his team Kuldeep Singh (Counselor) District Child Protection Unit, Dr. Paramhans (Health Department) Amit Kumar (Education Department) participated.
