
Rail fares hiked; effective from July 1
New Delhi, June 30 - The Railway Ministry has increased the fare of non-AC classes in mail and express trains by one paise and all AC classes by two paise per kilometre. This increase will be effective from July 1.

Ministry officials had earlier hinted at a fare hike on June 24. The Railways has not made any change in the fare of suburban trains and monthly season tickets in the interest of daily commuters.
The fare of ordinary second class has not been increased up to 500 km and the ticket prices for distances beyond this have been increased by half a paise per kilometre.
Ordinary sleeper class and first class passengers will also have to pay half a paise per kilometre more for rail travel from July 1.
