The Education Department of the Government of Punjab amended the rules of School and Inspection Cadre Group A in 2018 and removed the eligibility of Master's Degree, B.Ed., Professional Degree and about 20 to 25 years of teaching and administrative experience for the post of Principal and reduced the promotion quota from 75:25 to 50:50.

While doing so, ignoring the NCTE rules and the objections raised by the Personnel Department, the condition of B.Ed was removed and the condition of 10 and 7 years of experience under the 2004 rules was reduced to just 3 years by 2020.
Which was a sheer injustice to lakhs of students studying in government schools of Punjab, which was continuously opposed by the Government School Lecturers Union Punjab and this decision/rules were amended. The irrational 2018 rules of the government were challenged in the Hon'ble Punjab and Haryana High Court, the matter of which is under hearing in the Hon'ble Court.
Government School Lecturers Union Punjab and Government Lecturers Promotion Front Punjab held an important meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of state president Mr. Sanjiv Kumar with Secretary School Education Mrs. Anandita Mitra regarding various issues related to School and Inspection Cadre Group A and rules of School Education Department.
Giving information regarding this meeting, Mr. Sanjiv Kumar said that the meeting was held in a happy atmosphere and the Hon'ble Secretary School Education heard various issues and assured to resolve the issues at his and government level. The amendments in the rules of 2018, promotion from feeder cadre to Principal post, seniority list of lecturer cadre, schools which were given new streams in the past were discussed in the meeting. Approval of vacant posts there, restoration of ACP of lecturers who came in reversion zone, priority in the process of transfer and long-serving employees, renewal of syllabus of class XI and XII, knowing the side of the employee before taking action against any employee, filling four posts in schools, problems of District Education Training Institutes, outdated computer labs in schools, issues related to admission and entrance examinations of SOE schools etc. were discussed.
State General Secretary Mr. Ravinderpal Singh said that in this meeting the union gave suggestions regarding the syllabus and the outline of question papers during the examination, to which the Education Secretary gave a positive response. State Press Secretary Ranbir Singh Sohal said that the Honorable Secretary School Education talked about forming a committee of subject experts to improve the school curriculum.
At the same time, when he was requested to establish Swakendra in the examination centers, he supported Swakendra by telling the problem of the students and said that the safety of the students is important. On this occasion, Mr. Sukhbir Inder Singh, Mr. Harvinder Singh Fatehgarh Sahib and other leaders of the organization were also present.
