Garhshankar, November 4 - As part of the series of sit-ins called by the Shiromani Akali Dal Badal in the entire Punjab today, a massive protest sit-in was held under the leadership of Jathedar Iqbal Singh Khera Senior Vice President in Garshankar Vidhan Sabha Constituency. This dharna was given against the Center and the Punjab government as a protest against not making adequate arrangements for the purchase of paddy.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Jathedar Iqbal Singh Khera and Harpreet Singh Rinku Bedi said that under the collusion and deep conspiracy of the BJP at the center and the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Bhagwant Mann in Punjab, A big crisis has been created in the purchase of paddy. To avenge the farmers' movement, the peasantry of Punjab is being pushed to poverty and destruction.
Today, in the purchase of paddy, such a situation has been deliberately created that the farmer is plowing in Mandia for 18-20 days, but the field crop is not being bought due to his hard work. People are being forced to cut several kilos of paddy and sell it at a lower rate than the MSP. Due to poor arrangements for lifting the purchased goods, piles of sacks are in the open air in Mandia and the farmer does not have an inch of space to throw new paddy. Farmers are forced to keep their paddy in trolleys at home and in Mandiya for many days at their own risk.
There is no suitable arrangement of tarpaulins etc. for the convenience of the farmer in Mandiya or to protect the crop from rain. All in all, the peasantry is being looted openly and everything is going on with the help of God. In 70 years, Punjab has never seen such bad and inadequate arrangements and is being seen today. It is obvious that the central and Punjab governments are taking revenge from the farmers.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is directly responsible for these bad conditions. They did not coordinate properly with the central government to take out the paddy stocks from the godowns of Punjab. They did not even make necessary arrangements for the purchase of paddy in Mandia from the date of purchase of paddy on October 1. The central government also treated the farmers of the state like a stepmother and it also failed to remove the paddy stocks from the state on time and make room for this year's crop. It also did not give any discount in the moisture content of paddy, nor did it give any discount in the breaking of the grain so that the procurement could be done at a faster pace.
Due to this, lakhs of metric tons of paddy is falling in Mandiya and may be wasted in case of rain. Farmers are being harassed and they are roaming in Mandia for many days. They are forced to sell their goods at a lower rate than the MSP.
At the end of the sit-in, a demand letter was sent to the Governor of Punjab through local SDM Garshankar Harbans Singh.
