The 10-day long fair concluded with a powerful singing performance by Gippy Grewal

SAS Nagar, Oct 28: After continuous musical evenings for the last 10 days and exhibition of various stalls of handicrafts of artisans from across the country, Saras Mela was organised for the first time in Sector 88, Mohali by the district administration in collaboration with the Rural Development and Panchayat Department. The fair concluded with a powerful performance by Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal last night.

SAS Nagar, Oct 28: After continuous musical evenings for the last 10 days and exhibition of various stalls of handicrafts of artisans from across the country, Saras Mela was organised for the first time in Sector 88, Mohali by the district administration in collaboration with the Rural Development and Panchayat Department. The fair concluded with a powerful performance by Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal last night.
Thousands of people visited the fair every day and showed keen interest in the fine handicrafts prepared by the artisans. Apart from the presentation of folk dances from different states, musical evenings featuring various singers and music groups were also organised to entertain the audience and increase the income of the artisans.
Gippy Grewal started with his first song "Paanve Phulkari Ute Vel Bootiyan" and his popular songs "Phulkari", "Angrezi Beat Te", "Hun Bolno Vi Gayi", "Nawa-Nawa Nava-Nawa Pyar Hoya".
He enthralled the audience. '18ve cha dhariya tu paair ballie, ni paai gaye vair ballie', sung on strong demand of women, was the song on which the women audience attending the fair danced in front of the stage to fulfill their passion.
Saras Mela Nodal Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Choudhary thanked the Tri-City residents for enjoying these musical evenings as well as the artisans who came from across the country to exhibit their art and handicrafts to boost sales. She informed that more than 600 artisans from different states have set up 300 stalls in the fair. She informed that during the fair, North Zone Cultural Centre showcased cultural diversities of different states of India, Bihu of Assam, Kalbelia of Rajasthan, Holi and Mayur dance of Barsana of UP, various folk dances of Haryana and Punjab, Geedha, Bhangra, Sammi and Ludi etc.
Apart from this, folk artists like Been Jogi, Nachar, Nagada, Puppet Dance, Bazigar, Kaachi Ghori etc. entertained the visitors visiting the fair every day.
Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain praised the teams deployed for the successful organization of this 10-day event organized by the Mohali Administration in collaboration with the Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Punjab and said that Mohali's first Saras Mela has created history. In which lakhs of people participated in the fair. She said that the peaceful and smooth organization of Saras Mela has paved the way for the success of such events in future.
Before Gippy, Ranjit Bawa, Shivjot, Mannat Noor, Swetaj Brar and Basant Kur, Lakhwinder Wadali, comedians Jaspreet Singh and Ashish Solanki, Joban Sandhu, Rani Randeep, Shani Shah, Ninja Band and Kulwinder Billa have been invited to Mohali's first Saras Mela.
