Hoshiarpur: Taking a significant step towards providing relief from the recurring problem of waterlogging during the rainy season, MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa inaugurated a newly constructed Intermediate Pumping Station (IPS) at Shimla Pahari Chowk for efficient storm water drainage. On the occasion, he stated that the storm sewer project would serve as a permanent solution to the long-standing issue of water accumulation in the area and provide major relief to local residents.
MLA Jimpa informed that the project has been completed by the Water Supply and Sewerage Board at a cost of approximately ?1.58 crore. He said that every year during the monsoon season, a large amount of rainwater accumulated at Shimla Pahari Chowk, causing considerable inconvenience to residents, shopkeepers, and commuters. In many cases, traffic movement was also severely affected due to waterlogging.
He added that keeping in view the long-pending demand of local residents, the project was approved on a priority basis. Under the project, a dedicated pipeline has been laid from the Shimla Pahari area to Bhangi Choe, through which rainwater will be directly discharged. This will prevent water accumulation at the chowk and nearby areas, ensuring smooth traffic movement during rainy days.
Jimpa said that the Punjab Government is continuously working to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve civic amenities. Various development projects are being implemented at a fast pace to provide better facilities to the public. He expressed confidence that the new system would prove highly effective during the upcoming monsoon season and significantly reduce the problem of waterlogging in the area.
During the inauguration ceremony, local residents also expressed their happiness over the completion of the project and thanked MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa for addressing a long-standing public issue.
