Una, October 25 - As directed by Jatin Lal, Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Una, and Deputy Commissioner, Una, a one-day workshop was organized in the auditorium of DRDA, Una on Saturday. This workshop was organized as part of the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day and the Samarth 2025 Disaster Management Public Awareness Campaign.
Subject matter expert Dr. Hemant Kumar Vinayak from the Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, was present at the workshop.
During the workshop, Rajan Sharma, Training Coordinator and Capacity Building Incharge, Una, stated that the objective of the workshop was to promote safe building construction techniques, considering the region is located in earthquake-prone Zones 4 and 5. On this occasion, technical officers, engineers, and employees from various departments were briefed on modern techniques, building codes, and structural safety standards related to earthquake-resistant building construction.
He explained that safe construction not only ensures the safety of human life but also lays the foundation for long-term and sustainable development for society.
He emphasized the need for strict adherence to the National Building Code and other basic safety standards in building construction. He also stated that such workshops would continue to be held in the future to promote a culture of safe and sound construction in the district.
Subject expert Dr. Hemant Kumar Vinayak from the Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, provided participants with detailed information on the latest technologies used in earthquake-resistant construction, quality standards, and precautions to be taken during construction. Dr. Vinayak provided participants with useful information on safe construction practices in a simplified manner through visual aids and presentations.
District Nodal Officer (INSPIRE) Pushpa Rani, Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers, Technical Assistants, and Planners from various departments, including the Municipal Corporation, Education Department, Water Power Department, Public Works Department, and Disaster Mitras, were present on the occasion.
