Muktsar/Fazilka:- A sudden fire broke out in four villages of Muktsar and Fazilka districts on Friday morning, destroying wheat crop spread over about 250 acres. According to information, the fire started from a spark in Kabarwala village and soon spread to Gurusar Jodha and Pakki Tibbi in Muktsar district and Malukpur village in Fazilka district, causing huge loss to the crop ready for harvest.
Farmer leader Jugraj Singh said that the incident has caused huge loss to the farmers. He said, "The wheat was ready for harvest and this has caused huge loss. We demand immediate compensation for the affected farmers, most of whom had taken land on lease."
Former Sarpanch of Kabarwala village, Swaran Singh Bal, said that when the power supply to the fields was switched off around 11 am, a spark caused the fire. He added, "By the time the fire brigade vehicles reached the spot, about 15 to 20 acres of crops had been burnt." Darshan Singh, an affected farmer of Kabarwala village, said that his wheat crop spread over 10 acres was completely destroyed in the fire. Fire brigade vehicles from both Muktsar and Fazilka districts were called to control the fire. No loss of life was reported during this time.
