Bhawanigarh, June 17:- Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sangrur, informed the press that as part of the "War Against Drugs" campaign, the Bhawanigarh Sub-Division police arrested 26 suspects in various cases between June 10 and June 16, 2026. During this period, the Bhawanigarh Police Station registered 6 cases under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 12 suspects and the recovery of 42 grams of heroin/chitta and 400 intoxicating pills.
Additionally, police identified 5 individuals addicted to drugs who expressed a desire to quit. Through counseling and with the consent of their families, they were admitted to a de-addiction center and provided with medical treatment.
During the checking of suspicious individuals, 59 people were screened, and action was taken against them under Section 172 of the BNSS. Furthermore, 80 vehicles were challaned for traffic violations during day and night patrols. The police also resolved 25 public grievance applications. Awareness meetings regarding traffic rules and the harmful effects of drugs were conducted by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bhawanigarh.
The public has been urged to cooperate in the anti-drug campaign. Village Defence Committee (VDC) members are actively organizing public meetings across the Bhawanigarh area. Meetings are also being held with panchayats, sports clubs, and local dignitaries to educate youth and the general public, encouraging them to report information about drug smugglers to the police to help eradicate the drug menace from its roots. Strict action against drug dealers and anti-social elements continues.
