Una, May 17 – On Sunday, the voting process across the six urban local bodies of Una district was successfully concluded in a peaceful, fair, and harmonious atmosphere. Out of a total of 28,292 registered voters, 21,813 exercised their franchise, resulting in an average voter turnout of 77 percent. Among these voters, 11,244 were women, 10,568 were men, and one was a third-gender voter. Throughout the polling period, a palpable sense of enthusiasm regarding this "festival of democracy" was observed across all sections of society—including the youth, the elderly, and women. Long queues of voters were witnessed at various polling stations right from the early hours of the morning.
Sharing these details, Una District Election Officer Jatin Lal stated that among the district's six urban local bodies, the highest voter turnout—at 84.14 percent—was recorded in the Nagar Panchayat of Tahliwal. Here, across 7 wards, a total of 2,441 voters cast their ballots, comprising 1,171 male and 1,270 female voters.
Meanwhile, in the 9 wards of Nagar Panchayat Amb, a total of 4,398 voters exercised their franchise; this figure includes 2,183 male voters, 2,214 female voters, and one third-gender voter. The total voter turnout in this area stood at 78.89 percent.
Similarly, in the 7 wards of Nagar Panchayat Gagret, a total of 2,054 voters cast their votes, comprising 1,009 male and 1,045 female voters. The total voter turnout here was 76.64 percent.
In the 9 wards of the Nagar Parishad (Municipal Council) of Mehatpur-Basdehra, a total of 4,919 voters cast their ballots, consisting of 2,435 male and 2,484 female voters. The total voter turnout in this area was 77.35 percent. In the 7 wards of Nagar Panchayat Daulatpur Chowk, a total of 2,354 voters cast their votes, comprising 1,112 male and 1,242 female voters. The total voter turnout here stood at 77.23 percent.
Additionally, in the 9 wards of Nagar Parishad Santoshgarh, a total of 5,647 voters exercised their franchise, including 2,658 male and 2,989 female voters. The voter turnout in this area was 72.71 percent.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the administration had ensured all necessary arrangements to conduct the election process in a peaceful and orderly manner. Adequate provisions were made at the polling stations for security, drinking water, shade, seating, and other basic amenities to ensure that voters did not face any inconvenience. Special assistance arrangements were also put in place specifically for senior citizens and voters with disabilities.
During this period, a distinct sense of enthusiasm regarding democratic awareness and participation was observed among young voters. Youths casting their votes for the first time described voting as both their right and their responsibility, while also encouraging others to cast their votes. Similarly, elderly voters reached the polling stations with great enthusiasm, thereby ensuring their active participation in the democratic process.
The DC emphasized that every voter plays a crucial role in strengthening democracy, and that the active participation of the people further reinforces democratic values.
