New Delhi:- A major uproar broke out during a discussion on pollution in the Delhi Municipal Corporation House on Friday. Councillors attempted to break microphones and threw files.
According to media reports, the House was scheduled to discuss ways to tackle pollution in Delhi. However, chaos erupted as soon as the meeting began, with pushing, physical altercations and vandalism taking place. BJP and AAP councillors shouted at each other, splashed water and hurled files. Congress councillors were also involved. The situation deteriorated to such an extent that marshals had to intervene to escort Mayor Pravesh Wahi to safety.
According to media reports, the dispute began when AAP councillors demanded the immediate release of funds for development works in their respective wards. In response, Mayor Wahi announced the immediate release of Rs 25 lakh and said that each councillor would receive a total of Rs 2 crore during the current financial year.
The announcement failed to pacify the opposition. AAP councillors demanded that the amount to be released immediately be increased to at least Rs 1 crore. This disagreement further escalated the confrontation between the two sides.
During the uproar, AAP councillor Shagufta Zubair reached the mayor’s chair and, according to media reports, attempted to break the microphone installed there. Leader of the Opposition Ankush Narang was also accused of damaging a microphone. The situation became more serious when Congress leader Nazia Danish and AAP’s Ankush Narang clashed. When Danish questioned the AAP, Narang accused her of colluding with the BJP. In response, Danish said that she was not like Shagufta Chaudhary, implying that she would not join the BJP. This confrontation further heightened tensions in the House.
