Hoshiarpur:- Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ashika Jain said that as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, New Delhi, the work of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter lists has been started in the district. The main objective of this campaign is to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of being included in the voter list.
The District Election Officer said that the eligibility date for SIR has been fixed as 1 October 2026. He said that from 25 June to 24 July 2026, the enumeration work will be done by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from house to house and an enumeration form will be filled from each voter.
He said that if a voter is found absent in a house or the house is closed, the concerned BLO will visit that house thrice. During the first visit, the BLO will paste the information of his next visit on the door of the house, so that no eligible voter is deprived of this process.
Ashika Jain said that the work of rationalization of polling stations in the district will also be completed by 24 July 2026. As per the guidelines of the Election Commission, proposals will be prepared for setting up new polling stations at polling stations where the number of voters is more than 1200 and sent to the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.
He said that the draft of the voter list will be published on 3 August 2026. After this, claims and objections will be received from 3 August to 2 September 2026 and they will be disposed of by 28 September 2026.
The District Election Officer said that the youth who will be 18 years of age or more on October 1, 2026 and whose name is not yet registered in the voter list, can fill Form-6 and the required declaration form and submit it to the concerned BLO to get their name included. Apart from this, Form-8 can be filled for amendment, name change or other correction in the voter list. Citizens who have shifted from other states and are living in the district can also get their name registered in the voter list as per the prescribed procedure.
He said that the final voter list will be published on October 1, 2026 after the disposal of the claims and objections received at the assembly constituency level.
Ashika Jain appealed to all the eligible citizens of the district to actively cooperate in the SIR campaign and check their name, address and other details. She said that it is very important for every eligible citizen to be included in the voter list to strengthen democracy.
He said that for the convenience of voters, a toll-free helpline number 1950 has been arranged at the district level, which will be available every day from 8 am to 8 pm. Apart from this, voters can directly contact their BLO and get the necessary guidance and information by using the mobile app ECInet through the ‘Book a Call with BLO’ facility available in the app.
