Patiala: In observance of the National Fire Safety Awareness Fortnight, Mr. Kaka Ram Verma—Chief Trainer for the Mission on First Aid, Safety, Health, and Awareness—addressed students and teachers at Green Well Academy High School, Patiala. He explained that carelessness and negligence exercised during the use of fire, gases, electricity, petroleum products, and solar heat are leading to a massive number of deaths and widespread destruction.
To turn these combustible substances into "friends," they must be utilized and maintained using the correct procedures. While imparting this information, disaster management trainer Mr. Kaka Ram Verma noted that every day, hundreds of people lose their lives and property is destroyed due to accidents involving fire, gases, electrical short circuits, and petroleum products. He demonstrated the proper methods for using gases, electricity, and petroleum products.
He provided training on the different types of fires, fire-extinguishing techniques—including the use of water, sand, and the method of "starving" the fire—as well as the various types of gas cylinders and their correct usage. Mr. Kaka Ram Verma emphasized that if someone loses consciousness due to gas fumes, smoke, electric shock, or excessive heat, they can be saved from death through the application of first aid, placing them in the recovery position, administering artificial respiration, and performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). He urged everyone to make use of the helpline numbers for the police, ambulance services, and the fire brigade to assist both themselves and others in times of need.
Expressing her gratitude, Principal Mrs. Manju remarked that rising temperatures, intense heat, and a scarcity of trees often contribute to the outbreak of fires. She asserted that every student, teacher, citizen, and employee must possess knowledge regarding the proper usage of fire, gases, electricity, and petroleum products, as well as the protocols for safeguarding lives and property in the event of a fire. To this end, philanthropic efforts are being undertaken in schools by Shri Kaka Ram Verma, who is providing invaluable information free of cost, along with training on how to rescue victims.
