Jalandhar:- In a written press statement, Punjab Lok Sabhyacharak Manch (Pulse Manch) President Amolak Singh and General Secretary Kanwaljit Khanna, while opposing the inclusion of some parts of Manu Smriti in the Social Science book by NCERT and the removal of the history of the French and Russian Revolutions from the 9th-grade syllabus, said that the all-round development of students should be the objective of our education.
For this, the purpose of a healthy syllabus from a historical, authentic, and scientific perspective is to make our present and coming generations the guides and builders of the future. The leaders said that Manu Smriti works to pour oil on the roots of our shared and proud historical heritage. It pushes the most respected working section of society into the dark well of economic, social, caste-based, and intellectual slavery.
Similarly, taking serious notice of the removal of syllabus related to the French and Russian Revolutions from the 9th-grade curriculum, and also sidelining the chapter on the rise of Nazism, they said that these are criminal steps to keep the country shackled in all kinds of domestic and foreign slavery and to keep it devoid of the historical wisdom that opens the door to social change.
Imposing a non-scientific syllabus on students that takes society backward, and hiding from students’ view the people-oriented, society-focused history and social science syllabus that spreads the light of consciousness, is in reality throwing the students’ future into a dark well. This is so that the path can be cleared to impose on people the worn-out, anti-people thinking that favors the ruling classes, which is establishing a strong grip within society.
Pulse Manch leaders said that the Punjab government, going even two steps ahead of the BJP government at the Centre, and following the directions of Kejriwal and Sisodia, the Aam Aadmi government in Punjab is performing tricks like opening the treasury for religious places and diverse events on a large scale, silencing the youth demanding employment by force of batons, and diverting people’s attention from their real life issues by feeding them superstition and religious fundamentalism.
They said that every awakened eye — especially students, teachers, the intellectual class, historians, writers, rationalists, scientific democratic organizations and individuals — should take serious notice of this and come forward to raise their voice to get these steps reversed.
