Ratia, November 23: Martyr Devendra Singh, while maintaining the nation's honor and dignity, sacrificed his life to ignite the flame of the nation's honor, identity, and independence, earning the distinction of being Ratia's first martyr. His name will forever be etched in the golden pages of glorious history.
Martyr Devendra Singh was born to Sardar Karamjit Singh and his mother, Mrs. Harjeet Kaur, in Ratia on August 10, 1978. But today, by sacrificing his life for the nation, Martyr Devendra Singh became the apple of every mother's and father's eye in India. Martyr Devendra Singh, who created a glorious history of martyrdom in the Ratia region, was filled with patriotism since childhood.
When he was receiving his primary education in Ratia, he often talked to his friends about serving the country by becoming a soldier. After passing his 10th standard examination from MP Sotra School in 1996, he took admission in the Senior Secondary School of Ratia.
With the resolve to serve the country in his mind, he left his 12th standard education in the Government Senior Secondary School, Ratia midway and joined the Indian Army in 1998. After undergoing training in Ramgarh (Bihar) under the 8th Sikh Regiment, he served diligently in Ferozepur (Punjab) for one and a half years. During this time, in 2001, the Indian Army was conducting a search operation in the Kupwara area of ??Jammu and Kashmir. At that time, a contingent was leading the search operation under the command of Devinder Singh.
Suddenly, a fierce battle broke out between the notorious terrorist Haji and other terrorists and the army. In this encounter, the brave Devendra Singh, with the agility and bravery of a cheetah, killed the enemy terrorist Haji and another of his companions. Serving the nation to his last breath, he left behind his wife Jaswinder Kaur and a young daughter, repaying his debt to Mother India and rejoining the motherland forever on November 19, 2001.
The Martyr Devendra Singh Memorial Trust, Ratia, has been organizing public awareness programs, social service programs, children's quiz competitions, environmental awareness rallies against drugs and tribute ceremonies dedicated to him every year.
In the same vein, this time too, as part of Martyrdom Week, starting November 19, the Trust organized awareness rallies and tribute gatherings in various schools under the slogan "Drive Out Drugs, Save Society," "Save the Environment, Save Lives."
A special tribute ceremony dedicated to the martyrdom of Shaheed Devendra Singh will be held on November 24th at 10 a.m. at the memorial site of Shaheed Devendra Singh on Budhlada Road. Prominent figures from the area will pay homage by laying wreaths of respect.
