Hoshiarpur: In protest against the Punjab government filing police cases against journalists, RTI activists, and social media members from Bathinda and Ludhiana, the journalist community of Mahilpur, with the support of public organizations and other institutions, held a demonstration. A large protest march was taken out from the Mahilpur police station to the main ??? (square), with participants shouting slogans against the Punjab government.
On this occasion, leaders of various organizations, including journalists, addressed the gathering and condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for filing cases against journalists and RTI activists to suppress the voice of truth. They said that the voice of truth cannot be suppressed. Besides journalists from Mahilpur, Saila Khurd, and Garhshankar, leaders of various social, public, and employee organizations of Mahilpur also expressed their views.
During the protest, a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Punjab was handed over to Naib Tehsildar Ranveer Singh. The memorandum demanded the withdrawal of the cases filed against the journalists and warned that a strong struggle would be launched if the government did not withdraw the cases.
