Karnal, October 24: The Municipal Corporation of Karnal has become active in reducing environmental pollution in the city. Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar has issued an order forming a team of officers and employees. These teams will tour the city and ensure compliance with GRAP-2 regulations.
He directed that the National Green Tribunal's guidelines be strictly followed. Mechanical/vacuum cleaning of roads should be carried out daily. Proper disposal of collected dust should be ensured, especially in hotspots, heavy traffic corridors, sensitive areas, and designated sites/landfills.
Coal and firewood should not be used in hotels, restaurants, and open spaces, including tandoors. Hotels, restaurants, and open-air eateries should use only electricity or clean fuel gas-based appliances.
The use of diesel generators will be completely prohibited, except for emergency and essential services. Increase parking fees to discourage private transportation. Resident Welfare Associations should provide electric heaters to security personnel during the winter.
Construction work should be covered - He directed that all construction materials used in the city, such as gravel, sand, cement, soil, coarse sand, and dust, should be covered. Furthermore, construction work should be carried out under green covers or tin sheets.
If anyone fails to comply, the owner of the building should be issued a challan. For this purpose, separate teams of junior engineers, sanitation inspectors, and building inspectors have been formed, and they have deployed to the field.
Ensure that garbage fires are prevented - He instructed the Chief Sanitation Inspector and all zone in-charges that garbage should not be allowed to catch fire anywhere in the city. The most important thing is to ensure that garbage does not accumulate anywhere. The respective zone in-charges and inspectors will be responsible for this. He gave strict instructions that no fires should occur anywhere.
Ensure water sprinkling - He directed executive engineers to ensure continuous water sprinkling on all main roads and market areas of the city. It should be noted that water sprinkling is ongoing with the help of tankers.
Treated water from the STP is being used for this. Additionally, all ongoing municipal projects in the city should be sprayed with water to prevent dust from rising into the air. The construction agency should be instructed to do this.
C&D waste should not be visible - He directed that construction and demolition waste (C&D waste) should not be visible anywhere on the city roads. To this end, all junior engineers and assistant engineers should visit their respective areas. If any such waste is seen, the person concerned should be challaned.
The Additional Municipal Commissioner appealed to the citizens and private garbage collectors, scrap dealers, shopkeepers or street vendors that no one should set fire to garbage, polythene or plastic etc., as this pollutes the environment. Environmental pollution causes many diseases, which are harmful for everyone.
He said that the Municipal Corporation is committed to the cleanliness of the city and to protect the environment from pollution. If any person spreads pollution, the Municipal Corporation will deal strictly against him. He said that in case of burning garbage, a challan of Rs 5,000 to 25,000 will be issued.
