Ratia, 17 February:- At Shaheed Davinder Singh Government Postgraduate Women College, during the 11th Annual Two-Day Cultural Programme Jhankar Fest-2026, students spread the vibrant colors of Haryanvi, Punjabi, Rajasthani and Himachali culture through dance and music performances. The annual cultural programme Jhankar Fest was organized by the Cultural Department of the college under the joint aegis of the Haryana Higher Education Department, Panchkula, under the chairmanship of Principal Paramjeet Sandha and under the coordination of Convener Prof. Ritu and Co-Convener Prof. Surender Sharma.
The Chief Guest of the programme was Dr. Rajesh Mehta, former Principal of Chaudhary Maniram Godara Government Women College, Bhodia Khera. The programme commenced with floral tribute to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge. Principal Sandha welcomed the Chief Guest, students, media and participants. Addressing the students, she explained the importance of culture and encouraged them to actively participate in cultural programmes along with their studies and to present their talents confidently.
Chief Guest Dr. Rajesh Mehta said that Jhankar Fest is not merely a means of entertainment but a strong effort toward the preservation and promotion of India’s rich culture, art and creativity. Culture connects us with our roots and fills life with human values.
He stated that all students are the future of the nation. Their talent, discipline and sensitivity provide new direction to society. Music, dance, theatre and fine arts enhance personality, build confidence and teach the spirit of teamwork. Participation in cultural activities along with education makes them balanced, creative and responsible citizens. In today’s competitive era, skill, innovation and positive thinking are essential. He encouraged students to recognize their talent, practice continuously and learn from failures. He emphasized that hard work, discipline and morality are the keys to success. He congratulated the college management, organizers and participants for the excellent event.
Renowned lyricist Jaggi Khan of Ratia, in his address, presented the song “Kukh Vich Na Maro Loko” for the protection of daughters and also sang a powerful song against drug abuse. Through his songs, he gave a message of social awareness, sensitivity and responsibility. His songs raised awareness regarding daughters’ rights and a drug-free society.
Cultural Programme Incharge Prof. Ritu thanked the Chief Guest, special guests, Principal, staff members and participating students for the successful organization of the event. She stated that various cultural competitions are organized from time to time in the college to identify hidden talent among students, enabling them to participate and win at college and university levels and bring laurels to the institution.
College Public Relations Officer and Co-Convener Dr. Surender Sharma informed that students presented Punjabi, Haryanvi and Rajasthani songs and folk songs including patriotic songs, “Satar Ka Haryana Na Raha,” wedding songs, “Mera Haryana,” “Mera Daman,” Punjabi songs “Mirza,” “Dolna,” “Surmedani,” “Nachan To Pehla,” “Phoola Wargi,” and performed traditional, western, classical and hip-hop dance forms.
The judging panel included Prof. Bharat Kumar, Lecturer in Mathematics, Government Women College, Bhuna; Reena, Mathematics Teacher; and Asha, Art and Craft Teacher, Government Middle School, Jakhan Dadi.

In Rangoli Competition, First Prize was awarded to Kamaljeet Kaur MA Hindi Final Year, Second Prize to Anuradha Rani BA Second Year and Third Prize to Pratibha BA Second Year.
In Mehndi Competition, First Prize was awarded to Poonam BCom Final Year, Second Prize to Lovepreet Kaur BA Final Year and Third Prize to Mamta Rani BCom First Year.
In Poetry Recitation Competition, First Prize was awarded to Ekta Rani BA Final Year, Second Prize to Nirmala Devi MA Hindi Final Year and Third Prize jointly to Komal and Sakshi BA Final Year.
In Speech Competition, First Prize was awarded to Ekta Rani BA Final Year, Second Prize to Komal BA Final Year and Third Prize to Pooja Rani MA Hindi Final Year.
In General Category Solo Singing, First Prize was awarded to Simarjeet BA Final Year, Second Prize to Pavandeep BA First Year and Third Prize to Neeshu BA First Year.
In Folk Song Category, First Prize was awarded to Nirmala Devi MA Hindi Final Year, Second Prize to Anuradha BA Second Year and Third Prize to Pratibha BA Second Year.
In General Solo Dance Category, First Prize was awarded to Isha BA First Year, Second Prize to Preeti BA Final Year and Third Prize to Bent Kaur BCom Final Year.
In Punjabi Solo Dance Category, First Prize was awarded to Shailja BCom Final Year, Second Prize to Payal BA Second Year and Third Prize to Manisha BCom First Year.
In Haryanvi Solo Dance Category, First Prize was awarded to Ekta Rani BA Final Year, Second Prize to Komal BCom Second Year and Third Prize to Jaspreet BA Second Year.
In Group Dance, First Prize was awarded to Kamaljeet Group (Giddha), Second Prize to Khushkomalpreet-Jaspreet and Third Prize to Prabhjot-Khushboo.
Students Ekta Rani, Komal Rani, Sakshi, Poonam, Simran Kaur, Neeshu Rani, Rimpy, Sunita Rani, Muskan Rani, Khushpreet Kaur, Priya Rani and Manisha, who represented the college in the 11th Triveni Youth Festival organized by Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, were specially honored by the Cultural Cell.
The college family honored the Chief Guest and the judging panel by presenting mementos. Winning students were awarded certificates and cash prizes.
