Karnal, November 19: Civil Surgeon Poonam Chaudhary stated that female foeticide is a serious crime and no one involved in this crime should be spared. Strict compliance of the PNDT Act should be ensured in the district, and strict legal action should be taken against violators through regular inspections.
Civil Surgeon Poonam Chaudhary was giving instructions to officials at a meeting of the District-level Advisory Committee constituted under the Prenatal Sex Determination Act (PNDT Act) at the Civil Surgeon's office on Wednesday. She stated that both conducting and conducting sex determination tests are crimes under the law, and strict vigilance should be maintained against such individuals and strict action should be taken.
At the meeting, she directed that concrete steps should be taken to improve the sex ratio, including increasing raids on ultrasound centers and conducting surprise inspections to check their records. Along with this, the records of all the persons who have been punished under the PNDT Act should be updated on time.
In the meeting, Civil Surgeon Dr Poonam Chaudhary informed that there is a provision of imprisonment up to 3 years and a fine of up to Rs 10,000 for violating the provisions and rules of the PCPNDT Act and the Act also provides for a reward of up to Rs 1 lakh to the person giving secret information against those violating the rules.
Dr Sheenu Chaudhary, Dr Pankaj, Dr Vandana, Dr Vikram Mittal and other officials were present in the meeting.
