Una, November 2 - The Una Municipal Corporation has launched a special awareness and inspection campaign to ensure compliance with regulations regarding the sale of tobacco products.
Joint Commissioner Manoj Kumar has appealed to all shopkeepers selling tobacco, cigarettes, bidis, gutkha, or other nicotine products to ensure they have a valid business license issued by the Municipal Corporation.
He stated that shopkeepers who do not currently have a license should apply to the Municipal Corporation office by November 10, 2025, and complete the necessary formalities. A format for the application can be obtained from the Municipal Corporation office.
He stated that selling tobacco, cigarettes, bidis, gutkha, or other nicotine products without a license is a punishable offense, for which the shopkeeper can be fined up to one lakh rupees. Additionally, a fine of up to 15,000 rupees has been imposed for selling loose cigarettes or bidis.
He also stated that the sale of tobacco products is strictly prohibited around schools, colleges, and religious places. Immediate action will be taken against those violating this rule.
The Joint Commissioner stated that this step has been taken to discourage youth and children from tobacco use and to keep the municipal corporation area clean and tobacco-free.
Manoj Kumar urged all businesses in the municipal corporation area to cooperate in complying with municipal regulations by obtaining their licenses on time, so that the goal of making Una a tobacco-free city can be realized.
