Derabassi/Zirakpur/Lalru, August 29:- A special cleanliness drive is being run from August 29 to September 8 under the ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ campaign being run by the Punjab Government with the aim of making the state clean, beautiful and healthy. Under this, special activities related to cleanliness and sanitation were started in all the three municipal councils of the constituency—Dera Bassi, Lalru and Zirakpur—under the leadership of MLA S. Kuljit Singh Randhawa in Derabassi constituency.
On this occasion, Derabassi Municipal Council President Mrs. Ashu Upneja, Vice President Mr. Davinder Saini, Lalru Municipal Council President S. Zorawar Singh and Zirakpur Municipal Council President S. Gurpreet Singh Virk, along with councilors, ward in-charges and concerned officers actively participated in the cleanliness drive.
During this special campaign, special attention is being paid to activities related to cleanliness, garbage collection, cleaning of public places and awareness of people about cleanliness in various areas of the municipal councils. Along with this, people are being motivated to maintain cleanliness around them and throw garbage at designated places only.
On this occasion, MLA S. Kuljit Singh Randhawa said that ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ is not just a cleanliness drive, but an important step towards making Punjab clean and healthy with public participation. He said that this special campaign, which will run from August 29 to September 8, will prove to be effective in making all the three cities of Derabassi constituency cleaner and more beautiful.
He said that keeping Derabassi, Lalru and Zirakpur clean is not only the responsibility of the municipal councils or government departments, but it is the joint responsibility of every citizen. If the people also fulfill their responsibility along with the administration, then the cleanliness campaign can get permanent success.
MLA Randhawa said that the main objective of this campaign is to convey the message of “Clean Halka—Beautiful Halka—Our Joint Responsibility” to every household. He appealed to the people to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their homes and business establishments as well as public places and to dispose wet and dry waste only at the designated places.
He said that a clean environment not only improves the health and standard of living of the people but also plays an important role in the beauty and development of cities. He expressed confidence that the people of Derabassi constituency will participate in large numbers in this special campaign to be run from August 29 to September 8 and will contribute to making the constituency an example in the field of cleanliness.
