Garhshankar:- The annual athletic meet was organized at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College Garhshankar under the supervision of Principal Dr. Amandeep Hira. The athletic meet was attended by prominent social worker and businessman Sardar Hardev Singh Kahma as the chief guest. On this occasion, after singing Shabad, the chief guest Sardar Hardev Singh Kahma hoisted the flag and took salute from the march past. After the torch lighting and oath-taking ceremony, the chief guest Sardar Hardev Singh Kahma announced the start of the sports competitions and inaugurated the athletic meet by releasing balloons in the air.
Principal Dr. Amandeep Hira, while addressing, welcomed the chief guest Sardar Hardev Singh Kahma and appreciated his valuable contribution to the betterment of the college and social service. Chief Guest Sardar Hardev Singh Kahma in his address congratulated all the staff and students on the sports festival. He motivated the students to face the conditions of the times and create a good position in the future.
He invited the students to see their dreams with open eyes and always be ready to fulfill them. He invited the students to take inspiration from the writings of former President Abdul Kalam and the life of cricketer Arshdeep Singh. Sardar Kahma announced a financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh from his side for the sports and other development works of the college and congratulated the players who participated in various competitions.
Sardar Tirath Singh Rattu, a former student of the college and a social worker resident in Canada, attended the athletic meet as a special guest. Sardar Tirath Singh Rattu refreshed old memories with the college and at the end, while distributing the prizes of the athletic meet, congratulated the players who stood out in various items. He donated Rs 31,000 to buy a sound system for the college.
In the athletic meet, students from Sahibzada Ajit Singh House, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh House, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh House and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh House were made. Sahibzada Ajit Singh House stood first for the best performance. Among the boys, student Jagjot Singh was selected as the best athlete and among the girls, Harpreet Kaur was selected as the best athlete.
In the boys' competition, Jagjot Singh won in the 100-meter and 200-meter races, Harkirat Singh in the shot put, Sahil in the long jump, Harkirat Singh in the discus throw, Harshdeep and Sagar Rana in the three-legged race, Harshdeep Singh in the back race, Harshdeep in the sack race and lemon spoon race.
In the girls' competitions, Palak Rupray won first place in the 100-meter race, Simranjit Kaur won first place in the 200-meter race, Ayushi won first place in the 400-meter race, Navneet Kaur won first place in the 800-meter race, Harpreet won first place in the shot put, Sanjana Dhiman and Palak Rana won first place in the three-legged race, Drishti won first place in the back race, Inderpreet won first place in the sack race, and Sania won first place in the lemon spoon race. The college sports committee, heads of various departments and the entire staff played their role well for the success of the athletic meet.
