New Delhi:- The situation turned tense outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday when hundreds of supporters of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal staged a violent protest against the killing (lynching) of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh. Holding saffron flags and banners, the protesters broke barricades and scuffled with the police.
15,000 police personnel deployed for the security of the embassy used DTC buses and three-layer barricades to stop the protesters about 800 meters away from the High Commission.
The protesters shouted slogans against the Bangladesh government, demanded justice for the atrocities on Hindus and waved placards demanding ‘account for every drop of Hindu blood’. The protest was held in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, on December 18 to protest the brutal killing of 25-year-old garment factory worker Deepu Chandra Das by a mob on charges of sacrilege.
According to reports, the mob had beaten Das severely, hanged him from a tree and later set his body on fire. The protesters demanded the Indian government to intervene in the matter and pressure the Bangladesh government to take strict action against the culprits.
They said that Hindus should be treated with respect in every country and those involved in this heinous act should be given strict punishment.
The protesters raised slogans against the Bangladesh government and held banners and placards in their hands to express their protest. One placard read, “Hindu Rakat Ki Ek-Ek Boond Ka Hisab Chahiye” (We want an account of every drop of Hindu blood).
