Ambala Cantt, September 16:- Rotary Club Ambala Industrial Area is observing September as ‘Basic Education and Literacy Month’. As part of this initiative, the Rotary Club launched a literacy mission at S.S. Little Angels Convent School, Ambala Cantt, under the guidance of senior Rotarian educationists Dr. Ratan Singh Dhillon and Prof. Gurdev Singh Dev.
First, the school Principal Mrs. Neelima Khandekar welcomed and expressed gratitude to Rotary President Shri Dixit Kapoor and other members. Thereafter, Executive Secretary Mrs. Anita Kapoor invited keynote speaker Dr. Ratan Singh Dhillon. Dr. Dhillon highlighted the important contribution of basic education, literacy and teachers to social upliftment and nation-building, describing it as the best form of service. All the attendees in the auditorium listened attentively and welcomed him with applause. Former President Prof. Gurdev Singh Dev provided information about the Nation Builder, Vocational Awards and other important services offered by Rotary International. Subsequently, five teachers of the school were honoured with the ‘Rotary Teachers Award’ for their outstanding service and dedication in the field of education. They included Vinay Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Ms. Kirti Lamba, Sweety Bali and Satpal Kaur. Among the other Rotary members present, Rotarian D.P. Gulati (former AG, President) and Shashi Gulati (former President and Zonal Literacy Trainer) made a special contribution.
More than 60 teachers were present at the award ceremony.
After the programme, Principal Neelima Khandekar, School Management Committee Chairman Shri Alok Gupta and the members present celebrated the 80th birthday of senior Rotarian Dr. Ratan Singh Dhillon with great enthusiasm and wished him good health and long life.
