Hoshiarpur- While the ongoing discussions of making Sri Anandpur Sahib a new district have been welcomed by the people for the past several days, the people of Garhshankar constituency are strongly opposing the merger of Garhshankar constituency with the proposed new district of Sri Anandpur Sahib.
In this regard, today, in the presence of representatives of all political parties, trade unions and social organizations, a memorandum was sent to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann through Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jai ??Krishan Singh Raudi under the leadership of Darshan Singh Mattu. In which it was demanded that the Punjab government should not include Garhshankar sub-division in the new proposed district of Sri Anandpur Sahib.
He said that Garhshankar sub-division is an integral part of Hoshiarpur district historically, administratively and economically. Therefore, keeping in mind the feelings of the people, Garhshankar constituency should be allowed to remain with Hoshiarpur district.
On this occasion, Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Raudi said that he will convey this demand letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. But he wants to make it clear that the Punjab government has no proposal to make Shri Anandpur Sahib a district and include Garhshankar constituency in it, nor has the government made any announcement.
He said that if the government has any intention to make Shri Anandpur Sahib a district in the future, it will be implemented only after consultation with the people of the constituency.
