Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, July 28:- In view of the continuous complaints received from the public regarding improper and disruptive parking of private buses at various places in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district, the Regional Transport Authority has further intensified a special campaign against vehicles violating traffic rules, so that road safety can be ensured and traffic movement can be kept smooth.
Enforcement teams led by Harpreet Singh Atwal, PCS, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and Gagandeep Singh, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), conducted surprise checks at various places in the district. During this, private buses, tourist buses, school buses and cabs/taxis were thoroughly checked.
Private buses violating traffic rules and illegally parked and obstructing traffic were issued challans on the spot. Apart from this, legal action was also taken against commercial vehicles committing violations of the Motor Vehicles Act such as overloading, non-payment of road tax/Punjab Motor Vehicle Tax, expiry of fitness certificate, insurance or Pollution Control (PUC) certificate.
Regional Transport Officer Harpreet Singh Atwal said that this campaign has been launched in view of the continuous complaints received from the public regarding illegal parking of commercial vehicles and other violations of rules. He said that such violations not only cause inconvenience to the common people but also pose a serious threat to road safety and traffic management.
He said that regular enforcement campaigns are being conducted by the Office, Regional Transport Authority, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar since May 2026. During this period, 1,903 challans have been issued for various violations and an amount of Rs. 1,36,63,501 has been deposited in the state treasury through challan fee (compounding).
The RTO reiterated that the main objective of these campaigns is to promote road safety, strengthen traffic discipline and make commercial vehicle drivers and owners aware to strictly follow the Motor Vehicle Act and the rules made thereunder.
He appealed to the owners and drivers of private buses, tourist buses, school buses, cabs, taxis and other commercial vehicles to park their vehicles only at authorized places, pay all applicable taxes on time, keep fitness, insurance and pollution control (PUC) certificates valid at all times, refrain from overloading, carry all necessary documents and strictly follow all the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act. He said that people should fully cooperate with the enforcement teams to ensure a safe, smooth and convenient traffic system.
