Nawanshahr, September 29:- A seminar dedicated to the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh was organised at the Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts, Nawanshahr. The seminar was presided over by S. Chaman Singh, Project Director. A lamp was also lit in his memory on the occasion.

Addressing the patients admitted to the centre, he said that S. Bhagat Singh was born into a revolutionary family to Sardar Kishan Singh and Mata Vidyawati on September 28, 1907, at Chak No. 105, village Banga, District Lyallpur (Pakistan). He said that many people had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country, due to which we are enjoying freedom today.

He said that whenever there is talk of the warriors who fought for the country's freedom, the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh comes up, who had developed a desire to fight for freedom in his heart from childhood. Today is the birth anniversary of Sardar Bhagat Singh. His descendants are remembering Shaheed Bhagat Singh by organising plays at various places. Shaheed Bhagat Singh's ancestral village Khatkar is situated in Nawanshahr (Punjab). Shaheed Bhagat Singh was one of India's prominent freedom fighters. Bhagat Singh inherited the spirit of freedom from his family itself.

He said that we should always remember our martyred warriors, whose sacrifice has enabled us to live freely in the country today. We need to adopt their teachings in our lives. He said that in order to create the society dreamed of by Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the youth need to reopen the page of the book that he had turned over.

He said that the most serious problem facing society today is the growing menace of drugs, which needs to be eradicated from the roots. We can make sacrifices for our country only if the thoughts of the martyrs are kept alive within us. Therefore, let us bow in reverence to the martyrdom of Shaheed-e-Azam S. Bhagat Singh and uphold his ideals.
