SAS Nagar, October 11 - Former Chairman of Market Committee Kharar, Harkesh Chand Sharma Machli Kalan, has raised questions on the tender floated by the Punjab State Marketing Board for the repair of the link road from village Machli Kalan to Chadiala Sudan.
In a statement issued here, he said that according to the tender, the length of this road has been stated to be about three and a half kilometers and its repair will cost about Rs 56 lakh. But if we look at the ground level, most of this road has come under the road being built under the Bharat Mala project and only about a quarter of a kilometer of the road remains.
Mr. Machli Kalan said that the Punjab State Marketing Board has given its administrative approval for the repair of the link road from village Machli Kalan to Chadiala Sudan under Market Committee Banur and in the letter issued in this regard, the length of the road and the complete details of the expenditure incurred on its repair have been recorded on the regular series number 10.
He said that it seems that instead of going to the spot and inspecting the road, the higher officials of the Marketing Board have prepared the estimate for the repair of this road by sitting in their rooms because if we look at the ground level, more than half of this road has been completed under the Bharat Mala project and only a few roads are left. Due to this, it is incomprehensible to spend Rs. 56 lakh on this road which is about 125 km long because it was supposed to be built with Rs. 56 lakh.
He said that this road will only allow people to travel from Chadiala Sudan to Soy Majra village or to their fields, while the general public has no use for this road. He said that during the Congress government, this unpaved road was paved in 2003 and this road was used to go to a nearby religious place, but due to the Bharat Mala project, it came in the way and people have to take a long route.
He said that the Marketing Board has started the repair work on this road. He said that even after the repair of this half-complete road, the Marketing Board will have a lot of money left and if the concerned department wants, then with that money, some other link road of these villages can be repaired, which will not only provide relief to the people, but also help the government money. He said that he will also meet the Chairman of the Punjab State Marketing Board regarding this matter so that the wastage of government money can be stopped.
