Sangrur:- Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over various issues, describing ‘chitta’ (adulterated heroin) as a major problem in the state.

Kicking off the Congress campaign for the Assembly elections scheduled for early next year, Rahul Gandhi said at the ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Sangrur, “Chitta is a very big issue in Punjab.”

Referring to the drug problem, Gandhi said, “Many years ago, I had said that drugs were spreading in Punjab. At that time, the BJP and the Akali Dal had downplayed the drug menace, saying that Rahul Gandhi knew nothing about Punjab.”

Targeting the AAP government, the Congress leader said, “People need a government that works for Punjab. They do not need a government like the AAP, which is being run from Delhi.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party's Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot, state Congress president Pargat Singh and senior state leaders Pratap Singh Bajwa, Vijay Inder Singla, Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Amarinder Singh Raja Warring were also present at the rally.
