Sangrur:- Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday reiterated his challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an open debate over the latter's allegation that the Congress is “anti-national”. Gandhi claimed that he could prove within five minutes that it was the Prime Minister himself who fit this description.
“Come anywhere, sit with me and debate. I will prove within five minutes that Modi is anti-national,” Gandhi said.
Addressing a Congress ‘Insaaf Rally’ to launch the party's election campaign for the Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for early next year, Gandhi took a dig at the BJP's resolution to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the SIR issue. He said, “They say we should discuss it in Parliament, but you switch off my microphone; you do not allow me to speak...”
On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the government was ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the SIR exercise and had challenged the Opposition to participate in the debate. Accusing Modi of working for billionaires, the Congress leader said, “He works for Adani. He hands over the land, infrastructure and airports of the entire country to him. He will not work for farmers. He will not work for small and medium businesses; the Congress will.”
