Hoshiarpur:- Pehowa, also known as Prithudak Tirath, holds the belief that performing funeral rites here liberates souls from the state of *Preta* (restless spirit), particularly in cases of untimely death. People from across the country and abroad visit Pehowa daily to perform prayers, charity, *Tarpan* (offering water to ancestors), and religious rituals for the salvation of their forebears.
According to tradition, Shri Ram Chandra performed the *Pind Daan* (ritual offering for ancestors) for his father, Maharaja Dasharatha, at this very site on the banks of the ancient Saraswati River (Pehowa). Subsequently, Lord Shri Krishna brought the Pandavas to Pehowa; acting on His counsel, the Pandavas performed rituals and prayers on this sacred soil to secure salvation for the Kauravas.
Since then, people have continued to visit Pehowa daily to perform rituals for the peace of their ancestors' souls, thereby granting them salvation.
It is on this very land of Pehowa (Prithudak) that the temple of Lord Kartikeya—the eldest son of Lord Shiva—is situated. Here, oil is offered (*Abhishek*) to Lord Kartikeya, who stands as a witness to the prayers and rituals performed at Pehowa. Women are not permitted to enter the temple of Lord Kartikeya.
