Hoshiarpur- Powercom and Transco Contract Employees Union Punjab is continuously struggling to achieve its rightful and legitimate demands. A series of meetings are also continuing during the struggle. But the Punjab government is continuously adopting a policy of toll-taking. State President Balihar Singh, State General Secretary Rajesh Kumar Maur and State Press Secretary Inderpreet Singh informed that the outsourced workers working in the electricity department are being squeezed out by big money companies.
The current Punjab government had promised that all outsourced contract workers would be regularized by canceling the privatization policy, but despite the passage of more than three years, no worker has been regularized.
The precious lives of workers are continuously being lost due to electric shock and the organization is continuously demanding that the privatization policy be canceled and all the workers be directly included in the department, including the implementation of a minimum living wage and a guarantee of permanent jobs and pensions for the accident victims, the immediate reinstatement of the NCC discharged workers and the resolution of the demands listed in the demand letter are being fought.
Several meetings were held with the Chief Minister of Punjab, including the Finance Minister and the Power Minister and government representatives, in which the Powercom Board Management passed the agenda of directly including the workers in the department and sent it to the Punjab government, but the Punjab government is not implementing this agenda, due to which there is huge resentment among the contract workers.
On 16 October 202, the management of Power Com had fixed a meeting with the Power Minister on 24 October under the residence of the Power Minister, but the board management replied through a phone conversation a day before the 24th that the Power Minister had gone to Karnataka for some work, due to which the meeting on 24 October could not be held. The management of Power Com replied that the meeting would be invited again to the organization on the return of the Minister in the coming time. Due to which the contract workers decided that on 28 October 2025, a continuous protest along with children and families would be held in front of the residence of the Power Minister.
