Hoshiarpur: One person was injured by gunfire during a police encounter on the Barapur-Kunel Road in Hoshiarpur district, while another was arrested on the spot. The injured accused was immediately rushed to the hospital. SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident.
DSP Daljit Singh Khakh stated that a team of Garhshankar police, led by SHO Gagandeep Singh Sekhon, was conducting a blockade on the Barapur-Kunel Road.
During this time, two individuals coming from the Barapur side on a motorcycle were signaled to stop, but instead of stopping, they opened fire on the police party. One accused was injured in police retaliation, while the other two were apprehended on the spot.
The injured has been identified as Gajpal alias Kannu, a resident of Basi Wajidpur (Haryana), who was shot in the leg. His accomplice was identified as Simranpreet Singh alias Simmu, son of Baljit Singh, resident of Ibrahimpur (Garhshankar). The bullet fired by the accused hit the bulletproof jacket of police post in-charge Satnam Singh and touched a police vehicle. Five to six rounds were fired by the police.
Officials said that Gajpal already has a case registered under the Arms Act at Sadar Hoshiarpur police station, while Simranpreet Singh is an accused in a murder case registered in Bunga City (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar). SHO Gagandeep Singh Sekhon said that further interrogation of the accused will reveal their other crimes and find out the source of the pistol used in the attack.
