Karnal, May 22: Acting on the orders of Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vaishali Sharma, the Corporation's enforcement team carried out an operation against property tax defaulters on Friday. During this drive, a property located on the National Highway was sealed, while another property owner deposited their pending property tax on the spot to avoid the sealing action.
The Municipal Commissioner stated that during the operation, it was found that a property situated on the National Highway had outstanding property tax dues amounting to approximately ?11 lakhs. As these dues had not been deposited with the Municipal Corporation, the concerned property was sealed.
Additionally, when the Corporation's enforcement team arrived to take action against another property located on the same National Highway, the concerned property owner immediately deposited approximately ?16 lakhs in property tax dues online, right there on the spot. Consequently, that specific property was not sealed.
**Avail the Benefits of the Haryana Government's Amnesty Scheme**
The Municipal Commissioner announced that the Haryana government has extended special relief to property tax defaulters. Under this amnesty scheme, if a property owner deposits their outstanding property tax dues in a lump sum by June 30, 2026, they will be granted a waiver on the interest accrued on the outstanding amount up to the financial year 2024-25. She further clarified that to avail the benefits of this scheme, it is mandatory for the concerned property owner to complete the self-certification process for their Property ID.
**Appeal to Defaulters: Pay Taxes on Time**
Appealing to property owners, the Municipal Commissioner urged them to deposit their property taxes in a timely manner to avoid punitive actions by the Municipal Corporation. She made it clear that similar enforcement actions would continue unabated against major tax defaulters.
