Chandigarh: I have carefully read the Estate Office's letter dated 30.07.2025, which was sent to Mr. Akhil in response to his complaints.
This letter dated 30.07.2025 is completely accurate and in line with the discussions and suggestions we had made with the then Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Vinay Pratap Singh.
This survey, initiated by the DC at our initiative, was initially opposed by political parties and colony residents.
But when it was explained to them that this survey was being conducted to determine how many people had purchased or acquired these homes from the original allottees, so that a plan could be developed to transfer the tenancy to these illegal occupants by collecting a lump sum amount and revising the rent, the matter became clear.
All the suggestions in this letter are in line with this thinking. Nowhere in it is there any mention of evicting legal heirs or current residents.
Rather, it seeks to regularize the tenancy of illegal occupants.
Therefore, there is no need for any political party or leader to oppose this letter.
There is unnecessary uproar over the letter dated July 30, 2025, when in fact, everyone should welcome this step.
I am fully prepared to discuss this letter in detail with anyone.
We initiated this initiative with the DC when some houses in Sector 25 Colony and Ram Darbar were sealed.
Our main recommendations to the DC were:
1. A lump sum amount—say, 20% or 25% of the current collector rate—should be collected from the current illegal occupants and they should be issued new tenancies.
2. The annual rent for these houses should be fixed at 2% of the current collector rate, with a mandatory 5% increase every year.
