Zirakpur (SAS Nagar), December 5, 2025:- National Human Rights Commission Member Shri Priyank Kanungo today attended a human rights awareness program organized for sanitation workers at Zirakpur Municipal Council and made the sanitation workers aware of their rights.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the National Human Rights Commission is committed to protecting the human rights of all sections of the society and its aim is not to allow the human rights of the common man to be violated at any level. Speaking about the important role of sanitation workers in the society, he said that if the sanitation workers do not perform their duties diligently, then dirt will be spread everywhere in the society.
He said that therefore, we should all be grateful to the sanitation workers and behave very politely with them. He said that there should be no exploitation of sanitation workers at any level and the municipal councils and the administration should take full care of this.
He also said that in view of the arrival of companies for garbage collection, the responsibility of the administration and municipal councils towards sanitation workers increases even more. He said that we should take full care that the interests of sanitation workers are not affected in any way in view of the arrival of companies or contractors for solid waste management.
Shri Priyank Kanungo, member of the National Human Rights Commission, also said that women's self-help groups should be formed under the Aajeevika Mission. Poor and widowed women should be included in it and they should be given the task of making brooms along with other tasks and municipal institutions should buy brooms from them. He said that apart from this, sanitation workers should be given full respect and no one should be exploited.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal expressed the administration's commitment towards the welfare of all sanitation workers and garbage collectors. He said that the local government department and the district administration are constantly striving to fulfill the needs of these workers.
He also said that the demands and suggestions put forward by the sanitation workers and garbage collectors during the event will be seriously considered and efforts will be made to fulfill them through the concerned authorities.
On this occasion, Executive Officer Zirakpur Parvinder Singh Bhatti, Charanpal Singh Municipal Engineer and sanitation workers were present.
