Jaito, November 5:- The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken suo motu cognizance of the alleged statements made by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President and Ludhiana MP Mr. Amarinder Singh Raja Warring against Late Sardar Buta Singh (former Union Home Minister) during the Tarn Taran Vidhan Sabha by-election in Punjab.
Based on media reports and audio-video clips circulating on social media, the Commission has learnt that Mr. Warring had made derogatory remarks about Late Buta Singh’s religious Sikh, Valmiki community and his complexion, which are being interpreted as caste and colour-based discrimination.
Hon’ble Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Kishore Makwana said, “Such remarks are against constitutional values, social harmony and self-respect of the Scheduled Caste community. This is very serious and condemnable.” Realizing the seriousness of the matter, the Commission has immediately taken cognizance of the matter and has issued notices to the Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Tarn Taran, Punjab, seeking clarification.
The Commission has directed them to submit a written clarification within seven days. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes will ensure appropriate action in the light of the clarifications received, available evidence and legal provisions in this matter.
The Hon’ble Chairman said that the Commission has consistently taken a strong stand against any kind of discrimination, insult or stereotyped remarks against the Scheduled Caste community. He also appealed to the public to refrain from using social media and public platforms to maintain constitutional dignity and social harmony. He appealed to take full care of this.
