Una, July 24: A crucial meeting was held to ensure sanitation arrangements in the slums and temporary settlements of migrant workers established on private land within the Municipal Corporation area. The meeting was chaired by Manoj Kumar, Joint Commissioner of the Una Municipal Corporation. During the meeting, the Joint Commissioner issued necessary directives for the effective implementation of sanitation norms and the provision of a clean and healthy environment for citizens.
He stated that it is mandatory for landowners within the Municipal Corporation area—who have set up slums for migrant workers or other individuals on their land—to ensure the availability of an adequate number of toilets and basic sanitation facilities. If toilet facilities are found lacking at any location and instances of open defecation are observed, the concerned landowner and tenant will face penalties, fines, and other legal actions under the Municipal Corporation Act and prevailing sanitation regulations.
Furthermore, he stated that in cases of persistent violation of sanitation norms, action to remove illegally established slums would be taken in accordance with the rules. If necessary, electricity and water connections to such slums could also be disconnected in compliance with regulations.
He directed the Municipal Corporation's sanitation wing to promptly inspect all slum settlements within the corporation area and identify locations lacking proper toilet and sanitation facilities. In such cases, challans should be issued as per the rules, and the matters should be submitted for further legal action.
The Joint Commissioner appealed to all landowners to ensure the provision of necessary sanitation facilities, including toilets, for the migrant workers and other individuals residing on their land and to enforce compliance with sanitation norms. He also appealed for cooperation from all citizens, urging them to play an active role in keeping the Municipal Corporation area clean, healthy, and free from open defecation.
