Karnal, July 27:- Municipal Commissioner Saloni Sharma on Monday conducted an extensive inspection of Wards No. 7, 8 and 9 of the city and reviewed the progress of development works and sanitation arrangements. During the inspection, she reviewed cleanliness of parks, street lights, sewerage lines, storm water drainage channels, waste collection arrangements and various ongoing development projects. She directed the officials to ensure that all works are completed in a well-organized manner, with quality standards and within the stipulated time frame.
During the inspection, she was accompanied by Ward No. 9 Councillor Sujata Arora, Councillor Representative Mukesh Arora, Ward No. 7 Councillor Representative Vikas, Executive Engineer Priyanka Saini, Assistant Engineers Madan Mohan Garg and Manjeet Rathi, Sanitation Officer Mahavir Sodhi, Chief Sanitation Inspector Surender Chopra, along with officials and employees from the Engineering and Sanitation Wings.

**Development works worth crores underway in all three wards
During the inspection, the Municipal Commissioner informed that 14 development works have been tendered in Ward No. 7. Out of these, 6 works have been completed, 3 are in progress, 3 will begin shortly, and 2 are under the tendering process. An expenditure of approximately ?3.04 crore will be incurred on these works.
She informed that 11 development works have been tendered in Ward No. 8. Among these, 3 works have been completed, 2 are in progress, 2 are under the tender process, 1 work will start after the monsoon, and 1 work will commence shortly. One agency has also been debarred due to negligence in execution of work. Around ?1.55 crore will be spent on these projects.
Similarly, in Ward No. 9, 14 development works have been tendered, out of which 7 works have been completed, 2 are in progress, 3 are under the tender process, and notices have been issued to concerned agencies to start 2 works. A total expenditure of around ?2.52 crore will be incurred on these projects.

**Inspection of Karn Commercial Centre Phase-2 project
During her visit to Ward No. 7, the Municipal Commissioner inspected the ongoing development works at Karn Commercial Centre (Mughal Canal) Phase-2. She found that debris removal and soil filling work was underway at the site.
She informed that under this ambitious project, modern road construction, parking facilities, footpaths, sewerage drainage system and drinking water supply network will be developed at an estimated cost of around ?7.18 crore.
Expressing displeasure over the presence of C&D (Construction and Demolition) waste at the site, she directed that a supervisor be deployed regularly. She instructed officials to monitor illegal dumping of debris and immediately issue challans against violators.

**Directions to complete lane construction works soon
After this, she inspected cement concrete lanes in Moti Nagar, Ashok Nagar and Buta Singh Colony and directed officials to complete the remaining works at the earliest. She emphasized that road levels should be maintained in such a way that rainwater does not accumulate anywhere.
She also inspected Disposal No. 5 at Sector-14 Market and checked the logbook. She instructed employees to remain alert during the monsoon season and ensure that the disposal system is immediately activated whenever rainfall begins to prevent waterlogging.

**Focus on drainage, park cleanliness and C&D waste management in Ward-8
During the inspection of Ward No. 8, the Municipal Commissioner reviewed the interlocking paver block work on the footpath near Pratap Public School in Sector-6. She also visited the potential waterlogging area near Shiv Mandir, where local residents informed that rainwater drainage was functioning properly.
She inspected cleanliness arrangements in sector parks and directed officials to ensure regular lifting of horticulture waste. During the inspection, C&D waste was found outside some houses, following which she instructed officials to issue challans against the concerned persons.

**Immediate start of under-construction divider road work directed
During the visit to Ward No. 9, the Municipal Commissioner inspected the under-construction divider road in front of Sector-7 Market. Officials informed that the work had been temporarily halted due to rainfall. Taking note of this, she directed the Junior Engineer to restart the work immediately and submit daily progress reports.
During the inspection, the councillor raised the issue of shifting high mast lights and relocating street lights covered by large trees. The Commissioner directed the Junior Engineer (Electrical) to conduct a survey of all such locations, prepare a detailed report and ensure shifting of lights wherever required.

**Review of open-air gyms, manhole covers and community facilities
The Municipal Commissioner later inspected the Senior Citizens Forum Hall, Day Care Centre and Digital Library at the Sector-7 Community Centre and reviewed the facilities.
She directed officials to ensure regular lifting of horticulture waste from parks and maintain all open-air gym equipment in safe and working condition. She instructed the Executive Engineer to repair damaged gym equipment at the earliest. Agencies responsible for gyms under the Defect Liability Period will also be issued notices and asked to submit inspection reports.
She further directed that all damaged manhole covers across the city should be replaced within seven days to prevent any possibility of accidents.

**Inspection of storm water pipeline, auditorium and street food hub proposals
During the visit, the councillor raised the issue of repairing the storm water drainage pipeline near Atal Park in Sector-8. Officials informed that the estimate has been prepared and the work will be started soon.
The councillor also proposed development of an auditorium and indoor stadium at the Sector-9 Community Centre under the Urban Challenge Fund. The Municipal Commissioner directed officials to examine its feasibility and submit a report.
During the inspection, two to three potential sites near Atal Park were also reviewed for the proposed Street Food Hub. The Commissioner instructed officials to finalize a suitable location soon and initiate further proceedings.
